Cognizant To Lay Off Over 6,000 Employees

Over 6,000 employees representing 2.3 per cent of the total workforce are likely to be laid off by Cognizant Technology due to non-performance.

“We conduct regular performance reviews to ensure we have the right employee skill sets necessary to meet client needs and achieve our business goals. This process results in changes, including some employees transitioning out of the company,” a Cognizant spokesperson said.

This year the lay off are likely to be more as the routine annual exercise that weeds out the bottom 1 per cent of the workforce for non-performance as determined by the annual appraisal process that ends in March.

It is not known yet as to what roles would be laid off. Cognizant had 2,60,200 employees globally with 72 per cent based in India.

The company which saw a double digit growth for years found challenging with revenue growing at 8.6 per cent.
